Sea Shell and Pearl Charm Bracelet

Regular price $125.00 USD

Living on a tropical island, we are constantly surrounded by beautiful shells that wash up from the depths of the ocean onto the beaches around us, but did you know that shells were once used as "currency" in the world?

In Africa they were used in trade well up until the mid 19th Century. Shells were fashioned into a necklace or a bracelet in strings and represented collective dollars. Over three thousand years ago the 'cowry' shell was used as currency in China too. (that's the little one that looks like a mouth), but most importantly of all, is how shells were used here, between the islands of Indonesia. They were broken into flakes and the flakes became coins. These flakes had holes bored through them and then placed onto strings too so they became groups of coins and valued in bunches.

We created this beautiful charm bracelet in memory to the islands and added the single bright white freshwater pearl that comes from a neighboring island called Lombok, famous for it's pearl farms. We finished off the design with our signature logo and fob fastening.

Available in stelring silver, with 18kt gold plate starfish and/or full 18kt gold plate

NB: For gold plate purchases: Gold plate will wear off gradually due to constant wear and tear if the rings are worn on a regular basis. The gold will become more light yellowy. It is the nature of gold plating.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU: After your first year of wearing, we will RE-PLATE your piece for FREE. All you need to do is send it back to us by post and pay for return post and we will do the rest.

(Keep in mind - Normal retail cost to re-plate is between $35 - $75 USD at your local jeweller, depending on the size of your piece).
